Hi all, The time has come to go through the car, I have a grease gun with standard universal grease in but on inspection of the handbook it quotes using Rocol MTS 1000 Molybdenum grease.

Is standard stuff what you guys use?

Most of what you're going to find out there will be NLGI 2 and will work in most applications.
A number 1 will be too thin and a number 3, too thick, and anything beyond that just becomes more thick.
See this chart:
NLGI consistency number - Wikipedia

I looked it up, the Rocol product has clay as a thickener, old technology, but it is an NLGI 2, so look for that number with Molybdenum Sulfide added.
A grease that's suitable for water applications may be desirable, that's quite sticky and stays in place _ a synthetic grease is better because the oil in it won't break down like dino grease will.
What's in your gun now; specifically ?
The tech chart below of the Rocol product.

EDIT: stay away from Lithium products, they dry up after a while.

Hi Steve, I use Rocol mts 1000, I was lucky to get a full tin cheaply at a small local autojumble just after I got my car. When I changed my very split track rod end boots I was very impressed with how the old grease had resisted being washed out of the joint, the old grease took some effort to clean off the pin and no rust despite being almost completely open too the elements. Currently there is a chap selling 500g tins on ebay for ÂŁ24.99 posted which doesn't seem too bad. Normal 3% moly grease ÂŁ8-10 much better 20% stuff ÂŁ20+.
Best Regards Chris

Steve, please, it is not necessary to quote a previous post in your reply if you are following the train of thought in the thread, it just clutters up the thread unnecessarily.
