Hello gentlemen,

I was just curious what everyone’s tachometer says - understanding that certain year cars have 3 v. 4 speed cars. My tachometer is acting wonky. If I were to be at that speed I would think 2,000 RPMs seems about right?

Kindly,
Stephen

I don't remember exactly, but around 2000+, rather not more than 2500RPM. But I have model "8", so there could be another gear ratios (?).

2000 seems about right, the limit here is 70mph and at that my 96 Turbo R is doing around 1800 at that speed. The 4 speed gearbox came in in the early 90s I think. Mine has the 4 speed and the selector has "3" and "2" as well as "D", I'm not sure if the 3 speed cars have these options.

Looking in the Service Manual the Turbo R, Continental R and Azure have a different final drive ratio, giving 40mph per 1000 rpm, the other models are set to 35mph per 1000rpm. So 2000rpm sound bang on for 80mph.

Had my 1990 3-Speed Turbo R with original spec 255/65R15 AVON out today.
At 100kph /62,5mph the engine is spinning at 2100rpm, so at 80mph it should be 2690rpm 😉
