The intake on my 1990 Turbo r seems to be leaking. Car runs fine above about 1200 RPM but has a skip at idle. Replaced a number of vacuum lines, plugs, caps and rotors. A little better but .... sprayed some starter fluid around gasket and got a lot better as long as fluid was being sprayed. Will replacing the gasket require a specialist-three hours away- or can a good general mechanic do it. Looks like just a matter of taking off layers of engine bits until the manifold is reached and then putting everything back the same way. How many hours should this take.?

There are many billable hours with removing the intake manifold. I would make certain it's the root cause. Finding a competent tech is key. Many cars have been rendered in worse shape after repairs by "competent" mechanics.
Do it right, do it once.
