All, this is for my 79 SS2 that i've been slowly truing to bring back to life. I pulled the carbs off, gave them a good clean and replaced the floats but it's running super rich (as it always had). Now that I put an exhaust on, i can see black smoke.

What's the process for setting the carbs up? I have a CO meter but the car has cats.

Thanks

Al, remove the dashpots and pistons from the carbs so you can see the top of the fuel jet. Turn on key and look down at the jets, you should see the level of the fuel about an eighth of an inch below the top of the jet. If it is bubbling up over the top of the jet there is still an issue with the float setting or needles and seats.

Jim,

Thank you. I'll pull them off next time i'm up and check it out. Engine sounds like it's firing on 3 cylinders. Not good
