Dear community.. I bought a pretty nice 78 SS II that I fell in love with of course. Had some nice journeys so far and needed new tires. This gave me the first chance to check Charles' bottom.. 😍

I found some minor things and then came across this rather nasty part as it looks like the whole bottom of the suspension support has rusted off?
What is your idea to this? And what would you do? Can this be welded with a new piece or do I need to exchange the whole dpiece.. I have no clue what to call it.. Knuckle?
Thnx

This is the support cup for the spring and shock. Used cups can be found, but sometimes the swing arm has to be replaced which is a big job. A competent welding shop can repair. The spring must be removed and it is detailed in the factory workshop manual. Make sure the spring cup is oriented so it drains properly.
BTW this is a dangerous situation since the spring support will snap away with no notice. A pre-purchase inspection would have mentioned this.
