Hi,


So I am trying to remove front seats which are in the low and fairly central position. I CANNOT attach a battery to the car as there are wires cut and loose all over the car. Where would I go to attach power directly into the seats? If i was to put power directly into the switch would it allow movement of the seats?

I would not attach power randomly to any power seat terms in an attempt to move the seats. Start re-attaching wires under the seat. Power goes thru relays assigned to the seat joystick controls.

If you unplug the connector leading to the seat motor, you can energize it directly for fore and aft movement.

No joy, think they are all rusted stuck. They try to move but cant quite.


Going to unbolt the front 2 bolts and try to "bend" the seats back as the floors rotten below and hopefully the rear 2 mounts will bend the floor slightly giving me access.


Sounds drastic but the whole floor is to be removed anyway.

I doubt if you will be able to "bend" the seats back, after removing the front bolts, without the seat runners bending first.

Even when the floor pan has rusted badly its surprising how the seat mounts hang on. I would suggest to try to get a chisel near the rear mounts and cut as much of the floor pan as you can get at, before trying to "bend" the seat back.

Yes a huge heavy contraption! They need to be lubed to death and they can free up if the motors are good...mine work albeit slow but hey after 40 years I'm just happy when they move! Of all the projects I've done the seats were a low priority, I figure once I had it set that was good, no need for further adjustment but they do work.

Ended up lay on the floor for a good while and unbolted the mechanism as I could not get them to move at all even with lube.


Trying to figure out how to remove the windscreen now :)

The windscreen gasket has to be cut with a utility knife. The dash roll must be removed and the trim along the inside top has to be removed where the mirror is. There are 2 small BA nuts that go thru the seal and are brazed to the trim. DO NOT try to pry the trim out.
When re-inserting the windscreen, the trim is inserted into the gasket after it is on the windscreen. 2 holes have to be drilled thru the gasket for the top studs I mentioned. Do not try to bend the trim. It is brass and you must place the trim on the windscreen to check the profile or it will stick out at the lower front corners.

The windscreen is thoroughly covered in the workshop manual under Body.

Strange...never saw that before, that said, nothing really surprises me with these cars, after so many years they have been messed with by who knows who.

I think the windscreen chrome surround fasteners are fitted to USA spec models. If your car is RHD of UK origin it might not have them.
