Being caught in the moment bought a SS II from 1978 at an auction.
At times could already appreciate British vehicles, Land Rover/Range Rover, I seem to have mixed up the RR abbreviation. Now looking at making it an enjoyable summer cruiser and not concours perfect. Mainly as the mechanic doesn't really have time for another project nor my mrs the patience...

Buying a RR Shadow or any other RR model at auction without prior inspection and not knowing the service history is a real gamble. The cost to cure many items, let alone finding a qualified shop will is a major issue.

A huge gamble. One that I am well aware off.... Yet something happened and my fingers pressed the button with place a bid. With my luck I will have bought another project. And unfortunately with RR parts are quite a different in sourcing and price compared to other projects we have and have had. Let's see if we can enjoy it for a "reasonable" amount.

Wow, that's definitely a "moment"! I've been there before, albeit not with an Rolls. Your best bet would be to take possession to see what you have and then resell. Unless you really scored a well serviced example, these cars can get quickly out of hand expense wise. Then again, if you're up to a challenge, they can be rewarding. I'm still relatively new the the RR/Bentley world, but so far I've grown to appreciate these cars...simply nothing like them.

Hi Doug, I understand your point of looking and reselling. And who knows I might have to. Yet let's see. Hope to have the car somewhere this month. Would have a couple of months to see what needs to be done to "enjoy" it over the summer. The most unpleasant so far is to see the prices of the parts. Compared to all other makes/models I am used to it does indeed add up rather quickly even the standard items.

All will start with a complete fluid exchange of all systems and some new tyres.
At the moment the brake system worries me considering everything I have read here...
