Well seems the one in my car has been replaced previously at whichever time but the fuel pump wont go on unless the fuel pump is jumped. Tech diagnosed it to be a bad ECU. Thanks hopefully they have it and not $5000

Bosch CIS fuel injection was used on your era of cars. While I've never worked on a RR and Bentley from that period. On jevery car that I have worked on with CIS or CIS-E, the ECU only managed the fuel trim and the car would run with the ECU disconnected in default mode.

I have been in the business since 1976 and have never had to replace a Motronic ECU on any RR or Bentley. I would suspect that the engine run sensor is faulty, this is a more common fault on these cars.
I am going to take your suggestion/info to my mechanic. I hope your right because I cant find one. Snd the few around are too much to take a chance on. Incidently a large and old RR repair specialist needs 1 too. He had 2 Lexus with other issues and by swapping testing on his faulty ones my car ran as it was supposed to with fuel pump activating correctly without being jumped. I feel like the twilight zone here 🙄

Be careful there are only two places that I am aware of that can test a Bosch ECU for a 89 Bentley Turbo. Bowling Enterprises & Engineering and Classic Motor Corp. I am not vouching for either but I recently sent my ECU to a company in Texas to be tested and they sold me a "rebuilt" one for $500 which did not work.

I would go with absolutely no doubt and no hesitation to Bowling Engineering.
They are the number one and have such a knowledge and unic stock of unfindable parts.
John Bowling is a Mastro and his team excellent and helpfull.

Apologies for my incorrect information posted previously. I was thinking regular Bentley Eight not Turbo R when I suggested to check the engine run sensor. A 1989 Turbo R does not have an engine run sensor. The fuel pump relay on this model is fed from the over voltage relay in engine compartment. There is a 10 amp fuse in the over voltage relay, has that been checked? I'm not saying the ECU is not faulty, but your tech may have missed that fuse. Also I agree with Jean, Bowling Engineering is the best place to have your ECU repaired.

On the subject of John Bowling. I sent an Email to their business regarding the alarm ECU and they directed me to their agent in the USA which is Palma Classic Cars in NJ.

Thanks
