Have any of you used a Montana LLC to register your Rolls-Royce or Bentley in the United States or Canada? I'm considering it as an option to avoid the high sales tax in my home state.

A friend of mine used Deer Creek Corporate Services in Helena, Montana (http://www.mtvehicles.com)to register his brand new Rolls-Royce saving him over $40,000 in sales tax. They look the most reliable of the registered agent companies out there: http://www.registeredagentreviews.info

Do any of you have any experience with this route for registration?

I know for older models (10 years +) the plates in Montana are permanent and cheap. I think a one time fee of $165. Hope to hear from folks soon.

Humm, I've never heard of this Montana workaround. Looks very interesting.

Does Montana also get a person around the 15 year/25 year importation rules in Canada/USA (ie: can I bring in a 5 year old RR from Europe and register it in Montana?)

Don't bother if you operate the car in California. Our state has clamped down hard on out-of-state registered cars "domiciled" in California. You have less than 20 days to get your plates if you move here.

It's so bad now that Oprah limits her stays in the state when visiting her $75M home in Montecito. I don't know what the statutory maximum is before you become a resident and thus subject to income tax, be she's under it every year just in case the revenuers come looking for a cut.

As to importing a car, that's a Federal, not states, issue.
