Exactly, the carrier is stamped steel filled with urethane and only acts as a large bracket for the final drive. As Shadow II mentions, as well as the WM, the trolley jack should be placed under the diff itself using a rag, a block of soft wood, or a hockey puck to prevent scarring of the case.

Whoops! Thanks for the info. (y)I think I got the diff casing carrying most of the load as it happens and there is a piece of wood between the jack and the casing/plate.
