The ac condensers knackered on the brooklands and I've removed it but struggling to a valid part number for replacement. I'm on a 97 and last digits on vin start 595. The make on condenser is sanden, has few numbers on it...z-u32571, z-u32573 and no.6711 74. Does anyone know if a replacement condenser is used on any other makes/models that could be used or a good place to get a replacement. Thanks in advance

It would help to have the last 5 digits of your VIN, the sequence number, or the SZ Chassis Number Derivation from VIN, to be certain that I'm pulling up the correct information in IETIS/TSD6000.

That being said, the following is for a 1997 Brooklands and may help you with your search:

Thank you for reply and linked docs - The last 5 digits start 595xx...but will I will grab the vin again later today and report back

The one in the pic does look just about spot on mind :wink: , the disassembly of the pipe along top section was just to the left of the long pipe section too so looks like the one I'm after really

Anywhere recommended for a replacement unit - had a quick look on FS and seems very expensive, compared to the part on most other car manufacturers

My recommendation is that you take it out and then go to your local automobile AC guy for a "match up" session.

These items were not made by Crewe and almost certainly are "standard issue" that were used on many cars. I just don't know what commonly available part Crewe assigned their own UR number to this time.

This is, for me, one of the most maddening practices of RR/Bentley of the era. A huge number of the parts used are dirt common parts that, were the actual parts numbers from the source maker(s) used, would be very easy to obtain almost anywhere. I've spent far more hours that I wish I'd had to doing the tedious research to determine what Crewe Original is dropping into their little bags and boxes, slapping their own part number on, and marking up several thousand percent.

Hi Brian, I work in the marine industry and Rolls Royce have an annoying habit of assigning drawing numbers to parts rather than part numbers so you end up ordering several parts you think are different only to discover when they arrive that they are the same and the prices of their marine parts are eyewatering in the extreme, I'm only glad I'm not footing the bill!!

. . . and let me guess, each of those parts with different drawing numbers, but which are indeed the same thing, has its own price . . .

Brian, for whom it's a given that it will be eyewatering in most cases if it comes from Rolls-Royce, regardless of division

I've kind of went with above as finding a new Bentley unit was just not feasible given the silly mark up and picked up a new generic replacement part with the same-ish dimensions from my local AC Specialist. I think the word Bentley also marked his price up, but agreed on £200inc vat for a new unit

I'll get a few snaps up alongside the part num/details when pieced together. Hopefully modifications will be very minimal, but will certainly need a few flexi hose extensions made up as both exits are on one side

I'm positive there are a few other ready car makes that will fit the bill with minimal modifications, but as i need the car this w/e, slightly rushed into purchase :roll:

Ah well, will let you know how it gets on!

Replacement condenser installed, gassed and doing its job :D

From the stickers on it, its a 'MAN ZAI' make, model markings '120915062, MZBT09,B2-00101-99

Outlets both on one side, shot of modified inlet pipe:




I had a few generic brackets come with the unit...




Have not really got any updated pics of the fitment, but used one of these in the middle in the end. Chopped another down and it was case of one bolt threaded into condenser, another bolt into orig 10mm tread mounting hole. The bracket also acted as a spacer and kept nice safe gap between fans.

The other end side of condenser went into orig bracket, with only need to shave old pipe bracket

Once in place, was just case of piping up

This shots got a little kink in pipe hose, but rectified this by tweaking the pipe section until flow was smooth

The second outlet pipe was just a short run straight




The trim cover also needed the bracket chopping off (its still very well secured by all the other bolts)

Regassed and had checked for leaks and all good! JOB DONE

Good info. I now know that i need to do this job too.
FS price is £690. Compared that to when i changed one on my Jaguar, that was around £65.

Does the bonnet have to come off to gain access, or can the condenser be removed with the bonnet still in place?

I noticed you went with a modern 'cross flow' condenser! That is the single best improvement in AC in decades! Condensers of this type were designed to make the condenser more efficient. Specifically in automotive use, it greatly improved the performance of R134, that was marginal at best, when first introduced.

Does anyone know the physical dimensions of this condenser? i would like to try and find some options that are the correct size before i have to remove mine. So ideally i would have a new unit sat here ready to go in when i take the old one out.
Theres plenty of universal condensers out there, but clearly finding one the right size is paramount.

It does on my car, and I would imagine it's the same on yours.
ah crap. That means i will need help lift it off, as I normally work alone.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm getting no responses to another enquiry on here. Please could one of you guys post the exact model number of your AC compressor? I'm looking to upgrade my old Harrison to a more modern one.

And did you get more info on where to get the condenser from? I'm interested in replacing mine with one similar to the new one purchased in this thread but have been unable to find the exact one you used.

On an '87 spur the bonnet need not be removed for condenser? Just the grill. It might help some to have the hood removed, but not worth the effort overall.

The Harrison A6 (General Motors) is a great compressor, first introduced in 1962.* Ford even used it in some of their cars! The A6 in my 1987 RR spur (still original issue) blows 20 degrees (-7 Celsius) at the vent, and that's in the extreme desert temperatures of recent 120 degrees (49 Celsius) The design remained vertically unchanged for 30 year run...Why go thru the efforts to change it?

* I have a 1949 hot point (home) refrigerator, it has been plugged in since 1949 and NEVER out of service! NEVER a repair! NEVER a recharge. So if newer is better....I would think again!

To clarify, ambient temperature / humidity does effect the discharge temperature.

The 20 degree (-7C) reading was at 85 degrees (30C) ...at 116F (47C) the discharge was at 42 degrees, 30% humidity.

The newer technology in condensers (cross flow) are worth the effort to swap. Simply measure the size and note line connections. Some adapting and modifing are going to be required...nothing tragic.
