My only key has been damaged by a previous owner and while it still works I am concerned that it can break. I cannot find any source for these key blanks. I understand the originals were supplied by Yale. Has anyone found a source other than the Bentley dealer?

It's not a simple process. Bentley has only 6 keys left in Crewe. Depending on the serial number of my immobilizer one of these may work but there is a chance none will. They will not sell a key that will not work, even though I could use my existing Chip. Cost is $148 + shipping.

Your best bet is to consult with your local locksmiths. Virtually all now handle these kinds of keys. If it's a dirt common key blank they can generally cut it and then either transfer your chip to the plastic head or, if necessary, cut the key head such that it can be inserted into the original plastic key head that has the chip in it.

Just curious, but what's damaged on the key? It looks fine in the photograph.

I assume a previous owner did not insert the key all the way in and then tried to turn it while still locked. It is cracked partially near the root.
If the crack is really close to the key head (which is what I presume you are referring to by the root), and the key does not insert literally to the key head in the ignition, you could consider reinforcing this area of the key blade by building a bit more key head using epoxy putty. If you are able to cover the crack and support the blade ahead of it, on all sides of the blade, that should go a very long way toward preventing breakage.

There is also "plastic welder epoxy" that's more of a thick spreadable paste, that could be used.

Both are sandable and paintable after they set, if you wish to attempt to mask the repair.

Just something to think about.

Jim,

Will Bentley allow it to be that far away? My Toyota has a proximity sensor for the key, but it must be right next to the ignition switch to be sensed. I used this as a bit of a trick as far as spare keys go because I have one outside the car that is cut correctly, but not programmed, while there is another hidden in the car that's programmed, but not cut correctly. I need to have both heads touching each other near the ignition switch in order to make the car start.

The problem is not the chip, it works fine and can be transferred. Bentley dealer says Bentley will not supply a blank without chip and only if it has the correct chip. I have not found any locksmith or key vendor who has a blank of this profile. I anyone knows of one please post.

If a locksmith can't obtain a key blank (virtually any key blank) then no one can. My point is not that most locksmiths would have this key blank, but they should be able to source it. There is no way that Crewe actually made these keys.

I'm trying to figure out what they're trying to say about the chip. In most of these types of systems, the chip is the same in all the key blanks and is programmed to the car. It almost sounds like the system used in this vintage is a lot more akin to GM's old VATS key system.

It also appears that the type of key used on the 6.75L Crewe-engined cars is different than the 4.4 BMW-engined cars if the comment about PIN is taken at face value.

Well, I got lucky. Crewe had one last key that conformed to my immobilizer. Thanks to Rusty at Bentley of Zionville who did the research and ordered the key for me. I had to furnish the serial number of my immobilizer, the VIN and title and the key arrived yesterday. I had to pair it with the immobilizer (20 seconds) and it works perfectly.

Would you mind sharing the procedure for the key pairing?

I find it so crazy that there is only one key for that particular car on the entire planet. They(RR/Bentley) purportedly build these cars to last for generations, for example my 41 year old Shadow, yet a part as simple as a key and a key with an imobiliser to boot, can't be had. Boggles my mind. A key is the most basic of parts and without it, especially an electronic nonsense(my opinion)key, you're entirely screwed. That said, I'm thrilled a key was available for umtaliman. Forgot to say, upon closer inspection of the picture, I do see the crack and in the worst possible place.
Cheers!

Nothing new here. Mercedes flip keys for cars made in the 90's became NLA. I suspect because the supplier went bust or decided to stop making them. Is it matter of priority for Mercedes Benz? I expect that they don't give a crap about anyone who owns a 20 year old car.

I had a 97 SL and luckily I had two master flip keys, its absurd to think they discontinue something so basic, we need to come up with some kind of immobiliser bypass and a damn blank that fits the lock, or bypass the whole damn arrangement, hidden toggle for ignition "on" and a push button to start and done!

Sorry, I thought I had replied to this, must not have gone through. Firstly, if you have a working key, make sure it is far away from the car. Insert the new key into the ignition and turn to position 1 (accessories). Wait 20 seconds then turn off. That's it.

Hello everybody. I have the same issue with key. I was able to made key via local locksmith and also found specialist who can program key in immobilizer. May be somebody of our members have broken key for Arnage and ready to sell it? I need plastic head in which I will put my metall key part, so I will have more less original look of key. I tryed to search on Ebay but there is no any items for sale for Arnage RL.

Hi folks, some update regarding my key issue. After couple month of searching I found master key from Arnage Green Label, 1999 on Ebay and bought it. I supposed that I should recut key's blade. Today I recieved key and desided to try it. So I went in garage and was very suprised that this key opens all locks on my car: doors, boot, gloves box and ignition))) But my car is Arnage Red Label, 2000. How can it be???

On picture below upper key is my genuine vallet key, other key is what I bought on Ebay
