Tom & Millie Horton, Charleston, SC own a 1953 Bentley R Saloon. Burgundy over Black. The chassis # B217TO. They are trying to establish its historical owner lineage and where the car has traveled. Contact has been established with Bentley Heritage. The car was known to be in Le Touquet, France in April 1953. Why, what event, owners are unknown. The Horton's have 4 photos of this event, but no additional info. Any assistance concerning this Bentley would be greatly appreciated.
Your best bet for getting information related to the car's "birth" is to contact the RREC in the UK with a request for the construction and test records (AKA build sheets) for the car. These are a treasure trove of information and most often point you to the selling dealership and the initial buyer. You might also ask them if there are records of the car being registered within the RREC itself.
You might also want to contact the Rolls-Royce Foundation and/or join the RROC-US to see if either has either records of the car being in the club or there are members who know of this car.
The Horton's are traveling to Europe in the Spring and have a scheduled meeting with RREC. As for the Rolls Royce Foundation, I will let them know. Thanks....
