Bentley mk6 special bodied

Hello

I am looking for the full history about the bentley mk6 special bodied.
Does anyone have a website or book refrence.

What I want to figure out is if they where officialy supplied to the coachbuilders and built as a special edition or if they where always built as a normal saloon mk6 and then converted after a few years?

kind regards

The book is 'Bentley Specials and Special Bentleys' by Ray Roberts. I have wanted a copy for many years but balk at the prices even second hand ( $400 and up). The traditional Bentley Special is usually a Mk Vi (or other model) where the original body has passed it's best and is re-bodied as a light 2 seater. The best examples have the chassis altered to move the engine and gearbox further back. The usual process is to remove about 11 inches from the center cruciform and add the same length behind the front suspension.
