A case of shattered dreams..?
I'm James and I live just outside the New Forest in Hampshire, UK. Having registered in August, I apologize for my delay in responding with a new member introduction. My father took ill, and subsequently passed on, so was rather taken up with dealing with all of that.
Hopefully this post will work as I'm not the worlds best with knowing how to use forums, but here you go. Forgive me if I'm clicking the wrong things and not doing what I'm supposed to...
As a fiscally unblessed man, I always hoped the Premiums Bonds would grant me with a win and the funds to buy an immaculate Silver Shadow or Spirit (& maybe a Corniche for summer?!). Unfortunately, Ernie seems to have forgotten my address or even my existence. So a shabby '92 Silver Spirit II came up at a relatively low-ish price and it even had my name on the registration number! Almost gives the impression it has a private plate. I took this as a sign from God! (That's the excuse I gave my wife. She is still not amused. Very occasionally she might speak to me).
Well the old roller has a few issues, too many to bore you with here. Let's just call it a 'work in progress' restoration. (By someone who has no idea about engines and mechanical things). It's taken about £4K to get it 'safe' since getting it this summer, (tyres, brakes. Plus alternator was grinding itself to mush). Front lower ball joints have play apparently which hopefully will be sorted next week. And don't get me started on the paint.... Officially it's supposed to be Bordeaux red, but someone in its life has resprayed it red (similar to tudor red), but not a good job or good quality paint. Lots of overspray on window rubbers and the like, orange peel effect here and there, and despite going over with Autoglym super resin polish for its mild cutting effect, the paint keeps going back to being 'cloudy'. The car door jambs were left as Bordeaux red though....
Oh dear, think I'm going to need a lottery win or a rich sponsor! But I love to see unloved cars returned to glory (and this one has definitely been run on the cheap for the last decade or more) so I do what I can, when I can. However, without the wealth of a Premier division footballer. Perhaps I should become a rapper? Don't they earn good money?! (I am a writer of paranormal comedy fiction. Am doing book 2, which is possibly a mistake as no one really bought book 1. Oh well. "The Paranormal Casebook of Jeremiah Thorne" - pls buy it for Halloween?! I beg you, someone, anyone...pls buy it...! The kids say they want feeding!)
Finally, much as I'd love to pull along side another Rolls Royce and recreate the mustard adverts, by lowering the window and saying, "pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?" I'm not brave enough to - for fear of being punched in the face.
All the best, one and all,
