1993 Bentley parts needed

Hi Guys, my 19983 brooklands has failed it's MOT (Chassis number: 54079) and I need the following parts:

N/S Rear Spring
N/S Rear brake calliper seal (Repair) kit

Can anyone tell me if I'll have to buy genuine RR/Bentley parts, ir are any of these bits off anything else?

Also, the best place to buy them as flying spares seem a little expensive

Many thanks in advance

ASH

Alan

Hi ASH, This may not be the response you were hoping to receive but suspension springs are normally replaced in pairs, otherwise the car may become unbalanced. Apart from Flying Spares and Introcar Ltd., I don't know of any suppliers but no doubt someone else on the forum will be in a position to advise you regarding supply sources.

Hi,

I agree with Shadow11, however would you consider used parts for the spring. That is your decision but westminsterautospares in Leeds do have secondhand ones and are breaking RR/B cars including later models.

For the seal kits obviously 'new only' and unless you know the piston size it is hard to advise. I just bought a full set including stainless pistons for the front of my SS1 from rimmerbros these were the same part used on Triumph and were half the cost of FS or Introcar.

Rear calipers are proprietary to Rolls-Royce and so are the seal kits. Don't forget that the SZ Rolls-Royce seal kits are mineral oil compatible, not for use in glycol (DOT 3,4 & RR363) systems like the Shadows and 99% of all other cars ever made. You cannot use any other caliper seals for SZ cars other than ones sold by Flying Spares, Introcar, or Albers in the USA specifically for SZ series Rolls-Royce. If one caliper is leaking, do them all as the others will be leaking very soon.

1992 turbo r

HI, I am currently breaking a 1992 Bentley turbo r. Not sure what parts would be compatible - but if you need anything, i may well have it.

Ash,

Lawrence's car shows the springs are the same part number as yours.

Jim the calipers are bespoke as are several of my other cars but not necessarily the seals.

However for any DIY owner buy from a RR supplier.

We use Northwestautomotivehydraulics.co.uk and they list the SS1 seal numbers across several cars. The later calipers went to 40.4mm 4 pot pistons and again a fairly universal size. In saying that he supplies any sizes as required. You do have to be sure of fluid type though hence for a DIYer use the dealers parts.

Hi Ash - always phone Flying spares and ask what the best price is - They will probably do a deal for you. Don't rely 100% on the web prices.

Steve, the rear caliper seals for an SZ RR are also bespoke as they are formulated from a NBR polymer for mineral oil use. Seals the same size but specified for another vehicle will be formulated from EPDM polymers for use in Glycol brake fluids and must not be used in SZ series Rolls-Royce. If the seals are exposed to the incorrect fluid they will fail in short order. If you know of a specific seal application for another vehicle that uses mineral oil as the brake fluid which are less expensive than the RR aftermarket ones available at the usual suspects please advise.
