kick down

Well

Only had the car over five years and just realised it has no kick down in the auto box.
Is this the case?

It should indeed!! You do have to press quite 'firmly' to get it to operate in the older 3 speed whereas my 4 speed is far too easy to initiate 'kickdown' I think it's all in how the cable (?) is adjusted... it is on 'lesser' cars.

Learning to spend without fear...

If you look on the carpet, under the accelerator pedal, do you see a switch ont the floor ?
You must have one, Shadow have one so there is no reason you do not

On a 1991 the kick down switch is not under the accelerator pedal, it is part of the throttle position switch on the throttle body.

Check continuity between black/pink and yellow/purple wires on the TPS with full throttle, should be .5 ohms. If it tests OK the issue will be in the wiring or the detent solenoid inside the transmission. Info is in the workshop manual.
