Speedo problem

Hi

Hope you can help with this
The speedo is not working as in speedo hand moving
When I turn on ignition I can see the hand move.
When driving the electronic trip records the miles so at a loss to think what it can be
Did have the dials out so maybe problem hiding there

Hi I wonder if you have the 3 wires on in correct places? I think they are marked A,B,C
Hope that helps

While incorrectly placed wiring could be the problem, you could also have had the speedometer gear disintegrate inside the instrument, which seems to be "not uncommon" on these cars.

Good luck in finding the correct diagnosis.

Just been out for a run

I noticed the electronic trip is working and so is the mileage trip on the odometer
So it must be the internal gear after all
Tempted to hunt down replacement gear for speedo, keen to take out repair and refit in one go do you think it's worth the punt on buying the gear.

Just had a similar experience with my car. No speedo but trip still working as was cruise etc. The car had spent the few weeks prior in the bodyshop and when the painter got the car out of the workshop, he put the car on the pavement opposite. As the road was damp and the kerb was high, he gave it a load of throttle and span the drivers side rear wheel quite a lot - smoke from tyre!

I was not happy...

A bit later, I noticed that the reason the speedo was not working was that during this wheelspinning session in reverse, the needle had 'jumped' over the stop and was now stopped from moving by the stop. I stripped it all down, took the speedo glass off and replaced the needle in the correct place and all was restored to working order.

Not been a hooligan lately have you?
